Do you sponsor J-1 and H-1 Visas?

We only sponsor J-1. We do not sponsor H-1.

How do you choose your candidates?

We do a holistic review, including medical school performance, STEP2 score, clinical experiences, scholarly activities, recommendation letter quality, volunteering, and communication & interaction during interview.

Does year of graduation matter?

As long as the candidate has been in continuous clinical role as an Attending Physician, or has completed post-graduate training, the year of graduation is not strictly scrutinized.

Do Residents get a Meal Stipend?

Yes!  Residents are paid $3000 per year towards meals.

Is there an in-house gym?

Yes!  It is free for residents to use. Our wellness center has weights, cardio equipment, showers/locker room (separate from call rooms).

How long is the average resident commute?

Two main apartment/townhouse communities are either walking distance or a 5-10 minute drive from the hospital.  Residents with families who need larger homes choose to rent or buy within a 15 minute drive. It is recommended that you know how to drive. You will need a car in Michigan.

Do I have to pay for parking?

No!  Free resident parking is in badge-secured lots next to the Hospital and Clinic and is accessible by enclosed walkways.

What about white coats?

Provided free of charge!  Additionally, when they are no longer white, we have free in-house laundry/dry cleaning.

What professional resources do we have access to at the hospital?

Trinity Health sponsors full access to the following for all residents: UpToDate, Lexicomp, PubMed, VisualDx, ACP, and the Microsoft suite of tools (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)  We additionally have access to both standard and secure AI platforms within the hospital organization.

Is there 24 hour call?

Never!  We have eliminated overnight call commitments, using a combination of day and night teams in ICU, plus a staggered admissions/rapid response/floor coverage team that includes early, swing and overnight shifts.  This team is designed to simulate the real-world experience of an Inpatient Hospitalist and teach residents the skills such a position would require.

What is your ABIM Board Pass Rate?

With our 2026 and 2025 graduates achieving 100% pass, our 3-year aggregate ABIM Board pass rate is 96%, one of the highest in Michigan.

How do you evaluate Residents and give Feedback?

Evaluation is done at the end of each rotation and is documented in "New Innovations".  Every 6 months, one-on-one feedback is given regarding resident milestones in clinical competence, knowledge-base, career goal, scholarly activity, professionalism, interpersonal skills and communication.
